Executive Director Steve Landeene

Steven LandeeneAs the Executive Director for the New Mexico Spaceport Authority (NMSA), Steven Landeene brings a unique engineering and business perspective to his position. Steven uses his substantial experience to lead New Mexico’s strategy, marketing and business development efforts for Spaceport America, and is responsible for the strategic direction of the project.
Steven’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical/Astronomical Engineering from the University of Illinois, and an MBA from Arizona State University. In addition, Steven has earned Six Sigma/Greenbelt Certification from the Thunderbird School of International Management: Global Business program.  He also holds a Six Sigma Black Belt for Leadership, and received the Quest for Excellence: Steve Loranger President’s Award for IntelliStart.
Steven has extensive experience in aerospace-related fields, including twenty years with Honeywell Aerospace in which he filled many different roles. Landeene headed projects as diverse as overseeing the design of improved jet engines to growing maintenance service agreements around the globe. Ultimately, Landeene headed up the strategic planning and operation of a $2.5 billion division of Honeywell’s business.
After his time with Honeywell International, Inc., Steven accepted a position with Dubai Aerospace Enterprise/Landmark Aviation in Phoenix, Arizona. He led the strategy and planning to develop the new brand of Landmark Aviation for the Carlyle Group. The result of his efforts was a record performance in all business lines in the first half of 2007, with a 460% increase in shareholder value.

Steven Landeene became the Executive Director of the NMSA on January 7, 2008. He brings a proven knowledge of the aerospace industry, and how to bring strategic planning and effective marketing and sales tool development to Spaceport America. His professionalism and leadership will be a positive asset for the State of New Mexico as plans proceed for the nation’s first purpose-built commercial spaceport.
